This week we have a photo of why you shouldn't allow PVC cables to come into contact with expanded polystyrene.

You can see how the two don't like each other!

Purely a chemical reaction.

The cable was well oversized for the load it was actually carrying.

I would think in this case it is unlikely.

The problems you can get is the polystyrene attacks the PVC which may cause the cables insulation to fail.

With a heavily loaded cable there may be a risk of overheating as the cable becomes surrounded with thermal insulation
