Picture shift to right

I have a Samsung widescreen TV and the picture has somehow shifted to the right of the screen so im losing about 1/4 of the picture, to the left there is a thick blue band. Ive tried all I know but I am now at a loss! Anyone have any idea what I could do about this?

Is the picture the same from all of your input sources, ie, Sky Box, DVD Player, Freeview etc? If it is the same for all of your input sources then I think you need to adjust the picture geometry. Assuming it is a flat panel LCD or Plasma you should be able to do this from the menus, however, some manufacturers may hide this option on the service menu.

Have you got the TV manual, if the adjustment setting is available it should be in the manual, it is the vertical picture shift adjustment that should correct the problem.

Also, have you checked the output settings from your input sources using their menus. Sky boxes output in 16:9 or 4:3 which is selected from the Sky Box menu structure. Perhaps checking and resetting these might also fix the problem.

I dont have manual as mother gave me the TV and has moved abroad, I have adjusted the screen size in the freeview box, done the vertical shift thing and I cant for the life of me find the service menu, maybe im just retarded, but extremely grateful for your suggestions, thank you.

if you look at the Samsung website, or email them with the model number, they probably have an online users manual you can download.

If you get no joy from Samsung you could try posting a question on the TV forum of the AVForum website, link below:

You should find some further help from there if you are really stuck. I think that on the site there is a list of TV models and remote control codes on how to access the service menus in case you need it. Normally, TV manufacturers hide the service menu and it is only viewable with an engineers code. However, your geometry issue should be resolvable without having to delve that deep.

Just a little error by whitevanjack you will need to alter the horizontal line shift and not the vertical if the picture has shifted to the right . The verticle will shift the frame north or south.These adjustments are usually only found in the engineers service manual which may prove to be hard to obtain but good luck anyway.

Oops, apologies for the error, hopefully, the horizontal shift and vertical shift are in the same menus so if you find one adjustment the other adjustment should also be available.

yes you are correct whitevanman you will access these from the same menu the problem for the diyer is that the information comes up on the menu usually with the chip number only and you would have to have the knowledge or the circuit diagram to pinpoint the line processing chip manufacturers number to access the adjustments that is why this info is only with the circuit diagrasm of the service technician

Just one thought, most TV's have a "Reset To Factory Default Settings" option in the standard menu structures. Perhaps the original poster could try to find this option in the normal TV menus and reset to factory default settings. This might be a quick fix for the horizontal shift issue if it has been caused by menu changes.

Also, I have just checked the standard menus on my TV and there are H-Pos and V-Pos adjustments available depending on the source of the picture. The H-Pos and V-Pos adjustments are not available for all input sources but are available for some without having to delve into the service menu.

Normlly such a shift isn't a Prom error, but a chip regulator issue; and realignment would be out of the chips error code correction.

Most TV's have a PAINTER chip, to supply most vision, but if it supplied with incorrect information, it will display incorrect data. A shift in what it produces, is a 12V transistor regulator fault. Very easy to trace, and replace. Service manuals cost loads.
