Pilot or clearance holes in chipboard when screwing down.

I've got some 22mm chipboard to put down on timber joists, using 6 x 70mm chipboard screws, should I drill pilot or clearance holes in the chipboard or doesn't it really matter?.

Sorry, this should obviously have been in floor forum shouldn't it.
