Pinned & Rolling support in Roof Truss (timber)

Can anybody explain in simple terms for a truss newbie.

What is the difference between designing a truss with two pinned supports and designing it with one pinned and one rolling?

I am a cut roof (traditional) fan myself and have only fitted a small number of truss rafter roofs.

You aren't talking about glide shoes regarding raised tie trusses by any chance?

Pfft.. not a truss design expert but i would say that with the pinned-roller supports your simply checking vertical loadings and allowing a freedom of horizontal movement in the truss.
The pinned-pinned truss would allow for horizontal forces to be taken into the supports and you could design a truss not in equilibrium.

I would say most trusses should be designed as pin-roller unless you are specifying special truss shoes / support fixings.
