pipe cap in the wall

Got a new fridge which is slightly older than the last. The wall has a random bolt that stops it fitting.

On the other side of the wall is an enclosed space where the downpipe is from upstairs. There looks like a hot water pipe going into the wall where the bolt is. Does anyone recognise the bolt - is that what it is?

Anyone know what my options are? Stuck with a fridge that sticks out 20cm at the moment.

This is in the kitchen? Might be a gas pipe. Follow it back.

Looks like something has been disconected , can you not dig around it and pull it inside the space?

Ah I better not just unscrew it then!

Cheers all. Not sure what to do. Might just file off a couple mm from the bolt as I am sure it's very close to fitting.

So the fridge sticks out 20cm and you propose filing a few mm off, nah don't do it and take the advice you have already been given by johnd.

get a plumber to cut and cap it the other side of the wall. or if it’s water do it yourself.

If as I suspect it is a cap rather than a bolt then the cap might only be thin, wouldn`t touch it untill you know what is in the pipe. Secondly the fridge should not be pushed back hard against the wall anyway.

The fridge will have spacers fitted, so it can be pushed back as as it will go.

At what height is the cap from the floor?

20cm.

I managed to file off a tiny amount and that's all it needed to be able to slide past it.

I say slide, I did hear a slight scrape but I can deal with a little scratch on the fridge for the sake of it fitting!
