Pipe Connector

Can anybody tell me what type of connector this is, and what sort of appliance it would be used with? I have a American style fridge to connect up which connects by 1/4" pipe to a standard dishwasher/washing machine type screw connector, and wondered if there is an adapter I can connect to this?

It is a drain off cock.

leave it well alone.

Get a tee'd washing machine valve and cut it in above that fitting in your picture.
