Hi
When I turn off my cold water taps or when the washing machine stops drawing water there is a single knock/bang. Any ideas what causes this and how to cure it?

Water hammer

Fit a pressure reducing valve on the water main where it enters the house just after the stoptap.........cost £30 or so
