Hi

Obviously from the 3 port valve one pipe is my primary flow to my hot water cylinder, but which one is the central heating flow and boiler return/flow? and do i have a close coupled or combined feed/vent? am confused need help!!

close coupled on top of pump you have a tee up is cold feed rhs is primary flow with tee again up is vent/down is p/f
mv lhs is heating flow
mv rhs is h/w flow, your ret is not visable but comes out of cly and prob tees in under floor

btw the pipe in the pic that runs (on the photo) immediately above the motorised valve is my cole dist. pipe to the bathroom!! why do my feed and vent (from primary cricuit) join together???!!

another point, my prim return from hot water cylinder is obvkiously out of the bottom of the cylinder, but where does the heating return join this (under the floor)!! just curious! one thing also is my prim flow to the cylinder is not in the top 3rd of the cylinder as recommended, it's barely half way up!!

your cylinder is probably old as new cylinders have a bigger coil better heat recovery so it will be higher up.
your pipe joins under the floor then from rads to cylinder return to boiler

ok that makes sense nw, cylinder return meets heating return under floor and return to boiler together. like a circuit. thanks for help. just one last question if i can ask: why are my prim feed and vent joined together? is this common??

yes it's common they are in a neutral position in the system if they where on the other side of pump they would be in a positive position and wouldn't work etc

yeah i see if they were on the positive side water could be pumped out over the vent pipe maybe? one little thing i am trying to understand though is won't cold water from the primery feed be put into the central heating/cylinder flow circuits, thus reducing the temp??

btw not on the picture, my pirmary return tee's up with the heating return above floor level and go round the cylinder, back to the boiler. thanks for your help all, much appreciated, you know your stuff!

i read that a little bit of water now and again evaporates from the primary circuit, and the feed tops up tiny amounts ocassionally when needed. i guess this wouldnt really lower the hot water temp much, if anything.
