I have been pondering the alarm system and the location of the PIR in the hall. Currently positioned at location 2 as there is no front door contact. Is location 1 better if I add a contact to the front door

Thanks RF - Bit of a slope to the ceiling at position 3 as the stairs do a return there. I wouldn't think it would look good there.

What are you wanting the PIR to do EXACTLY?
Work only in full setting or as a part set entry timer? Or both or more???
More information is needed unless you want more "informed advice" that you think is unsuitable.
And there are very discrete items on the market you could use. Again the choice is yours if you provide the correct information.

I should have mentioned the slope to the ceiling originally but as I live in the house I tend to forget these little things! So apologies.
The original intention was to use the PIR in position 2 as a full and part set entry timer. With the front door opening I thought that the pick up with the detectors I've got could be compromised - Optex RX40QZ. So the plan was to install a door contact and use the PIR as a part set entry (in addition to the door contact) or walk through on full set.

Then agreed P3 as Instant Alarm not entry. On full set. Use it as entry on part.
