Hello all
Getting quotes for stripping old roof, fitting new tiles battens felt etc and was just wondering seeing as the quotes are from a recommended trades people site very few belong to say for example the NRFC, what sort of questions can I ask to make sure they are using the latest materials and recommended methods. I realise I could just go via the NRFC site and get somone but I'd rather hire the smaller guy. Many thanks.

i prefer to use breathable roofing membrane these days.

even if they use breathable it doesn't hurt to include overfascia vents too.

make sure they don't try and pinch a course by spacing the tiling battens a little too generously.

don't allow them to leave debris all over the upstairs ceilings.

a robust plastic eaves drip or tray is useful.

Essential more like ;)

If this is a semi, how is he joining the neighbours tiles?

What does he propose for ventilation?

Ask him for 10 jobs done in the last 10 years and go and have a look at ones done last year and 10 years ago - to see if the ridges are still on the roof!

Will the tiles place additional load on the rafters - can the rafters cope?
