Does anyone know for sure how long planning consent lasts for?

It was originally five years but then reduced to three.

There was talk about extending it as a result of the recession because of so many developments put on hold.

Does anyone know what the current situation actually is?

Far as I know it's still 3 years but there can be restrictions on individual planning decision notice. Lifted this from the Kingston web site;

From 24 August 2005, the duration of full planning permissions was reduced from five years to three years.

Where outline planning permission has been granted, any reserved matters application for approval has to be made no later than three years from the date of the outline permission. The development must be begun no later than two years from the date of approval of the reserved matters or, if there are approvals on different dates, the final date approval of the last reserved matter.

One site had this rider but don't know if it's a national policy;

From 1 October 2009, it is possible to apply to extend a current Permission, Listed Building and/or Conservation Area Consent, provided that the original allowed period has not yet expired.

& yet another site stated new housing still has 5 years :confused: . A phone call should clarify.
