Guys,

I just moved into a new place which has plasterboard walls. My previous experience with houses has been with brick/block walls so I am a little new to this :(

It would seem that the plasterboard walls have some kinda of wallpaper (vinyl?) covering which I would either like to remove or paint over.

What is the accepted best practice for this kind of thing?

Is there a way to remove the covering easily or would I end up damaging the plasterboard?

Thanks.

This depends if the plasterboard had an oil based primer applied. You will discover soon after starting your stripping. If your scraper starts digging into the plasterboard it was put up by cowboys and you wull have no end of 'filling' to do after stripping it. Golden rule with vinyl paper is to pull off surface skin, then saturate backing with water, starting from bottom.

Id leave it on and paint over it...you could end up wrecking the face of your pasterboard as Maggy Matt says..

Cheers guys, I think painting over it may be the way forward.

I will try to remove the paper in a small section tho, just to see what type of trouble I would have if I wanted to remove it all :)

Thanks again.
