I have just had a new plasterboard ceiling installed in my rather large hall. My insurance would not cover me for the initial damage and I had to fork out rather a lot of money to have this done. unfortunately I am now left with no money and a rather unnatractive ceiling! Can I just paint over the plasterboard? Obviously I would much prefer to have paper or a skim on it but I have been left completely skint by this

Thanks

how are you going to pay for the paint?

that aside, it will cost you twice as much if you do paint it now.

why?

paint cost

skim cost

paint cost

see two lots of paint, which means in the long run it will cost you more. leave it a bit longer untill you can get it plastered

the paint is not a problem. I have plenty of paint (bought some a while ago then changed my mind and shop wouldnt take it back!). I cant leave my hall the way it is until I get some money together!

how is the plasterboard joined at the edges? is it just butted together or is there a slight indentation along its length at the edge? If there is you can join and tape it, sand it dwon and then paint it to give it a decent finish

it appears to be taped at all the joins ( kind of chequered tape) and some sort of sealant over that. is that what you mean?

take some fine sanpaper and give it a rub. if its dry and powdery then its been taped and filled. All it will need is a light rub down to feather the edges of the filler smooth and then it can be emulsioned
