Plasterboard or Asbesto?

Just moved into a new flat that was built in the 60s. There are some polystyrene tiles on the ceiling of one of two of the rooms, I just wanted to see what the condition was underneath and am concerned if the boarding could be asbestos. Does anyone have any suspicions it could be?

Plasterboard is gypsum covered in paper as part of the manufacturing.
Gypsum is soft and can be scratched or dented easy.
Plasterboard is mostly 12.5mm or 9mm.
Go look in the DIY store at plasterboard and compare what you have.

Asbestos is not covered in paper.
It tends to be thin sheets
Its much harder material
Can be 4-6mm Ish in thickness.
Could be that asbestos is in that sheet material.
I'm not saying that's not asbestos but if your unsure get it tested.
Looks like plasterboard that the paper has been peeled off. I can't be sure of that from a picture.

It looks to be concrete - from what appear to be the pores ("popped" bubbles) in the grey surface - that has been papered over with woodchip.
Polystyrene tiles after that.

You say yours is a flat? Your ceiling may be the concrete slab of the floor above.

But, I would not give a definitive analysis from a photo alone.
If in doubt, get a pro out (for an assessment, and sample).
