Plasterboard repair

I was lifting insulation in my loft to check for evidence of a mouse infestation and found the following which looks like a mouse has been gnawing at the plasterboard floor.

Is there a way to repair it?

I was thinking of putting a small plastic lid over it & using aluminium foil tape to keep it in place to prevent the mice from making it worse.

Pest control are coming in tomorrow to put down bait.

PVA ( wood glue and water 4 to one)
Allow to dry. Think layer of filler over.

Or

I used to stick a peace of plasterboard over damaged areas like that.
PVA seal.
Stick plasterboard on with any filler you have.

Thanks - I was too scared of filling it in case it made the existing plaster soggy and end up with a mess on the ceiling below.

I do have a spare piece of plasterboard. I'm not very clued up on this kind of thing - would you mind going into more detail on that part please?

Hi Emma
Clearly your mice have a somewhat bland diet!
No need to overthink this one, just spread any filler you have over the damage and forget about it....
yon mice will start gnawing elsewhere if they feel like it.
If you want to fix some plasterboard, just stick it down with any pva wood glue and it will be fine.
Curious creatures - I’ve known them chew through plastic water pipes and cables before now.
Clearly they don’t watch Masterchef!

Ha ha thanks John. I only have powder filler at the mo - would that do or should i get a small tub of ready made? (I only use it for little dents in the wall).

If I did use plasterboard do you mean cutting it bigger than the hole, covering it & then gluing it to the brown paper bit of the existing plasterboard?

I’d just use whatever I had in Emma.....plasterboard will be fine so long as you don’t saturate it and you’re a long way from doing that.
I’d probably cut a patch that could span from joist to joist, if only to hold it in place but any patch will do.
If you want to stick it down, brush on some PVA glue and it will stick just fine.

In loft just now but roof boards look fine tbh. I'll leave a tub on top of insulation just in case though. Thanks

I have a great deal of respect for Foxy, Emma - a man of great experience and few words as a rule - but I don't think he's right this time.
I can't see any tide mark or any other damage than what our friendly rodents have done so I wouldn't worry too much.
