I've got a hole-in-wall fireplace which is currently faced in stonework (i'm assuming it's just cladded) I'm putting in a wood burning fire basket and want the sides and base of the hole to be painted smooth. What the best material to use bearing in mind the heat that will be generated, should i use sand and cement undercoat with multi finish on top or will this just crack?

Thanks

Rob

Fire cement and it will need to be tested so you may as well get the professionals to do it for you.
