hi all

ive been to see a job ,in a bathroom, the customer went to remove the old tiles, and now has pulled all the render of the wall to,exposeing the brickwork, some of the wall is breezeblock as well

hows best to tackle this, the customer is going to re-tile the whole walls,

is it ok to dot and dap new boards onto the excisting walls and then retile straight onto the boards, any suggestions how the pros would tackle this would be appreicated

cheers

Hi, I don't consider myself a plasterer.

The only advice I can give is that in the shower area, behind tiles, it might be better to use cement board or synthetic building board (e.g. wedi building board).

Yes you can but bearing in mind the extra thickness of dot & dab plus plasterboards and as brumylad pointed out a waterproof board in a wet area such as Aquapanel tile backing board which is a glass reinforced cement board, available in Wickes.

there is evidence of damp at the top of the wall, this has come from the roof as the customer lost a roof tile,

the wall is only slighty damp and will be dry out,as soon has he gets the new tile put on,what i need to know, is it ok to put the boards on the damp area, which is only slighty damp,

or should he get the tile replaced first and let the wall toatlly dry out before dot and dabbing the boards on
