Hi folks,

Not sure if this is a plastering or a tiling question but given I know v little about either I thought I'd stick it in here.

I'm about to knock some tiles off a section of plastered block wall in the bathroom and expect a bunch of plaster will come off with the tiles. I want to get the wall back into decent nick before putting the new tiles on.

I was planning on skimming over with some Thistle Multi Finish, but was wondering if I can get away with a single coat or if I would need to go over with a second coat and polish it? Seems a bit OTT if I'm putting tiles on top but from what I've read a single coat might be too porous to tile on top of? (Tiles are 100x300 ceramic and using BAL SPF adhesive).

Cheers for any help
Bert

I did a single coat and it's been fine for 10 years (tiled shower walls as well).

Good news, cheers for the quick replies.

On the PVA point... should I do anything priming-wise to the block work before putting the skim on top or can it just go straight on there?

Thankfully not in the shower area, I'm doing that with Schluter Kerdi board and you might even get some pics if it goes well (or hilariously badly!)
