Hi guys the plaster on my chimney breast has blown and so plan to remove this section and dot n dab a new board on to the exposed brickwork.Would using a sheet of fire resistant board help to prevent the cracking and blowing in the future due to the heat from the stove. Thanks in advance guys.

If your intent on boarding rather than rendering, you cant use any form of gypsum based board even Fireline, they are only designed to withstand a one off exposure & are not suitable where the temperature regularly exceeds 49 degrees. You can use a calcium silicate board such as Supalux but you cant just rely on adhesive, it must also be mechanically fixed. Personally I’d stick with Vitcas heat proof render; http://shop.vitcas.com/vitcas-fireplace-render-260-p.asp or, as I do, mix your own heat resistant sand/cement/lime render & apply in two coats (5:1:1 - 6:1:1) & then use Vitcas heatproof plaster over that; http://shop.vitcas.com/vitcas-heat-resistant-plaster-16-p.asp

You can use board in some cases but this all depends on the stove. Boiler stove tend not to radiate lots of heat to the room. Mine is a coalbrookdale boiler stove and only the top get around 50. But it is always best to go ovewr the top just incase someone moves in after you and fit a big time stove.
