Morning

I'm looking to render/plaster an internal stone archway, and wondering if anyone could offer advice on what to use.

I've been reading about lime plaster, but wasn't sure if that was overkill as it's just this arch, and it's internal?

It's not original to the house, but the work to remove it is a non-starter (because of multiple factors I'll not go into). I'm planning to trim some of the larger protruding pieces and then cover. I'm happy for it not to be the straightest and retain some bumpy character, but it'll need to be a smooth finish to feather into existing plaster either side.

I believe the plaster with either side is lime (did vinegar test) with gypsum skim on top. I had to chip some out for some structural work

Any advice massively appreciated

OP,
Dont. Dont plaster over the exposed stonework - just clean up the return surfaces and leave as a feature.

Is that for a reason other than preference?

As mentioned, it's not original and the house has plenty of other quirky features ;)
