I’m renovating a house I’ve purchased 1930s there is a wooden picture rail embedded in the wall at about 7ft mark all round every room this was hidden by wallpaper. Question is can I plaster over this or does it have to come out. It’s about 100mm wide 70mm thick thanks

Lime plaster?
Do you have cavity walls because if not dont use gypsum plaster.

Yeah. Remove the wood.
If you start creating lots of damage with plaster coming away stop.
Come back for advice

To be honest I’ve tried to remove a piece already and it is like powder. A lot of the plaster in the house is cracked

Yeah. Can't use multi finish. Could cause damp issues.
I've stuck on insulated plasterboard.
Do some research before proceeding.
