Depending on the method you are using to finish the board/joint off, would make the difference between which alternative you use.
Taper edge if you are tape jointing, filling out with easifill/joint compound and sanding down.
Sq edge if you are taping joints and skim finish the whole boarded area.
You don't want to tape joint, tapered edge and feather or blend in with finishing plaster, not going to get a good finishing edge.
If you are undecided which application is best, generally you will find a plastered board, more durable than a joint finished one. It will take the knocks better.
this is for your wall right? use taper edge and you then can choose to tape or skim, theres no problem skimming taper edge, as a matter of fact most contractors now will put tapered up if its being taped or skimmed, we was skimming tapered last week
