We are installing a false ceiling in the bathroom in which there is a pipe to take out the stale bathroom air. The fan is in the roof. We haven't put the plaster boards in yet. We have used a flexible metal pipe rather than rigid plastic. However it seems it is noisy when the fan operates. Should I have used rigid plastic for this very reason? And for hygiene reasons is plastic better (i.e. mold less likely to stick to a smooth surface?).
I am wondering if some noise is created by friction from air passing over the ringed surface. Maybe I am worrying unduly and that once the plaster board is in place I won't hear it so much. I plan to put acoustic insulation above the plaster board and around the pipe.
