Hi,

I'm renovating 2 flats and have been soundproofing the floor between the 2. Sadly a combination of ambiguity on the soundproffing spec and an oversight by my builder have left me with a problem to resolve.

Basically the following sketch shows deck 18 as the top part of the floor which my builder (and others i've asked) thought was chipboard decking, instead of what i now know to be a soundproofed board

So the problem i now have is two hard surfaces are in contact with no absorbtion layer between so we wont pass the vibration test. Although the chipboard is floating it would still be a huge task to take up.

Instead i'm hoping i can put a soundproofing material on top on the chipboard and under the floor finish / carpet.

What would people recommend here ?

While i'm on does anyone know exactly what tests the carry out for part E ?

tia,
Mike.

Could you consider a good-quality heavy underlay under the carpet to reduce the impact transmission?
But it's obviously a gamble as once it's done it's done.
Common sense suggests don't risk it, put a floating layer on what you've got and then the finish.

Moral of the story? Your average builder is guaranteed to f@*# up a soundproofing spec. Get someone who knows what they're doing or DIY.

Wonder if he also put the drywall screws straight through the resibar into the joist?
