Hello I was working in an old airing cupboard and managed to knock a small hole through which I thought was plasterboard. It’s only after I have thought this may possibly have been an asbestos insulation board instead. As it’s at someone else’s home it’s to late to get tested, is there anyone on here who can advise if this looks more like aib or an old plasterboard? I’ve sent photos of full airing cupboard, the damage on the right hand panel aswell as close ups of previous damage to other areas of panels which I would assume would all be the same boards. Any help or advice would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Plasterboard is paper coated gypsum.
Any paper?
Can't tell by looking at it.
Unlikely to be asbestos so we think but the stuff turns up everywhere so only way to tell is get a test.
It also don't burn so I've been know to put a match to it.
Plasterboard will go soft in water and asbestos tends not to but it's not a sure test.
Don't get too worried. You've done nothing wrong as long as you stop when you find it.

Thanks for the reply I couldn’t notice any paper lining which was what was concerning us abit as well as it being located where the hot water cylinder was and an old property

Best get it tested? It’s pretty cheap.
I think that it’s likely plasterboard.

I also don’t really see why someone would use asbestos sheet next to an immersion heater.
However people do strange things and they might have thought that the electrics were a fire risk, or because it was to hand.

Thank you for the response. Is there any distinguishing characteristics that you can see that differ from plaster and asbestos board ?
It's granular, the wrong colour and not conducive to the design of the cupboard.

My thoughts was for insulation properties but I’m only in my early 30s so pretty clueless when it comes to knowing where asbestos was likely to be used to be honest just knew it could be common in boiler cupboards etc so any advice on here is greatly welcomed. It was in a property I’m not likely to return to so getting it tested isn’t really an option unfortunately
