Dear All
We live in an old Victorian conversion. It has an original slate roof with no roofing felt under the slates. Also, there is no insulation.
A couple of the slates seem to have cracked or moved as drops of water come in from time to time. However, rather than get an entire new roof, we were wondering whether as an alternative we could use a polyurethane foam which we saw advertised in a magazine and have since read about on the internet.
We understand that this will hold the slates together so they don't slip, etc., prevent water from coming in where there are already cracks/moved slates and insulate the loft. However, we have heard negative things about this process.
So, we would be really grateful if someone could tell us whether we could use this foam in our place given that some water is already coming through and also, whether it would actually work and last at least the 20 years its guaranteed for. (our building is very tall and so we would like to avoid using scaffold if possible to keep the costs down, hence wanting to use the foam from the inside).
Thanks a lot.
Aidan
