PLEASE HELP - Roof repair

Hi All

We live in Kilburn in the London area and were wondering whether you could recommend any competent and trustworthy roofers that would not rip us off (we don't really know much about roofing).

Also, one of our neighbours sugggested buying spanish natural slates as these are cheaper than Welsh ones but apparently look the same. What spanish companies make these slates (good quality ones) and what should we be paying per slate compared to the Welsh ones. PLease note we live in a conservation area and so need to use natural ones.

Sounds like you'll need planning permission, this will determine exactly what slates you should be installing.

you don't say exactly what the problem is but if you're looking for a simple re-roof of slate as they are suffering nail fatigue and the roof is not felted then the best option is to re-use as many of the existing slates as possible and replace any that need it with re claimed ones. This way you shouldn't need to get permission to do the job then simply get the roofer to put the new slates on the back of the house and all should be fine. The roof will be water tight and cost wise it should be cheaper than using new slate
