Plumber not turning up

we have a plumber who has been doing our house, however he doesn't commit to a finish date and doesn't answer his phone. He turns up once in a a while probably does half days work then leaves. We have paid him for work done but we have also paid him to buy our water cylinder. Which he says he has but so far hasn't bought round. This has been going on for months. We have asked other plumbers to come round and give a quote but they are all charging a lot of money for a few days worth of work. In addition he hasn't finished one section completely he has bit everywhere so it hard for another plumber to finish.

Any advice? I don't think he part of any prof body, our builder rec him so we just went with him. Big mistake.

Demand your cylinder if you have paid for it.

Do not allow this plumber to finish the job, instead get a reputable plumber in and if they say they need to re-do the existing work allow them to do so.

If they are all asking for 'a lot of money', and it's a comparable amount then that's probably the proper price for the job. You got what you paid for with the cheap guy unfortunately!

Yes, stop giving any more peanuts to your monkey. Time to bite the bullet, pay the going rate and get the job done properly in a sensible amount of time.

Sounds like you've already wasted lots of time. Don't consider wasting any more in court if it's only a small amount.

How about contacting your local Trading Standards, they may well know of this guy? or at least it is a Heads up on his activities?

Has he done any gas Fitting at all? anything to do with a Gas Fire or Gas Central Heating unit?

A Building Contractor should be appointed with the help of a Small Works Building Contract. The Builder(Main Contractor) will employ all the trades via Sub Contracts.

So for a plumbing job, you'd first employ a 'Main Building Contractor' who you'd then want to employ a plumber?

The OP has already said that other quotes were "a lot more money".

Kind of rules out a middle-man I think.

You need to find someone else but you need to get your money back. Also if he says he's already bought the water cylinder, tell him you want it immediately otherwise you are taking further action.

Get rid of him fast then replace him with somebody else! Ask other local trusted tradesmen to recommend somebody cheap and reliable!

I always posted on the Australian "Master plumbers" site that first of all make sure the plumber is licensed and insured in the areas they are going to work and if they fail to do the job properly or in a decent amount of time call the local plumbing authorities and your insurance company to go after the rascal
