Can we get these groups seperated please.

One forum for Plumbing and another for;
Central Hating?

Could we also separate DIY electrics from the tedious waxing lyrical nonsense that goes on within the electrics section :rolleyes:

It goes along the lines of an op asking in all innocence "can I replace a white moulded socket, like for like". The response then goes flying off with the fairies, banging on (ad nauseam) about part P, BS, testing, etc etc etc , yawn yawn yawn. Then the usual bit of falling out (this is an example, although in this case it doesn't get all technical with a hater of big DIY stores chuntering in the back, and foregound) .

And this is quite apart from the heavy going in-house professional knowledge threads.

I did ask Admin maybe last yr if this could be done but he felt that the plumbing section (after the split) may get neglected and only boilers getting the attention.

What admin thought and what the reality might be needs to be tested, and there is only one way to find out.

When I currently go into the forum, I feel overwhelmed by the number of posts about heating systems, so mark all read and depart, reading nothing.

I asked a couple of questions myself recently on the P&CH board, but the replies were less than helpful on both occasions. For all the good it is, it might as well be a private forum, like the combustion chamber, because they are less than willing to help, and when they do help, you get little snippets of info.

You can always PM me Steve and I will try and point you in the right direction. :D

Bit like electrics then

But in electrics you get the impression that certain people are always willing to help (myself included). The only time information is completely withheld is when the OP seems to have no idea what they are doing, to the point they might do something dangerous.

Now, this is understandable with GAS work, but only a lunatic would do gas work themselves, they deserve everything coming to them IMO, but my questions were not to do with gas installation and I explicitely said I would not be doing any work myself. Still information was withheld.

So in conclusion, there seems to be far fewer genuinely helpful people in P&CH. There seems to be an atmosphere of "this is our club, we dont like outsiders", like a stranger walking into the Rovers Return or the Queen Vic.

I hear what you're saying Steve, but as a non-electrician looking into the electrics forum, I find some of the posters quite rude and unhelpful. It's true that gas work is pretty much off-limits to the diy-er, and that those with the required qualifications are pretty blunt about it (almost protective at times). However, since an awful lot of electric work has to comply, it would be helpful if instead of shouting at innocent ops about part P, BS this and that etc, a regular referred to a wiki link and everone else had a gentleman's agreement to leave it there.

I know I'm no angel, but it really does get to be tedious "up their own backsides" reading in there far to often.
