Hi, we moved into an old house and have a toilet in a cupboard under the stairs. I can’t change the toilet for a close coupled toilet because of where the pipes are on the back wall. I was going to buy a low level toilet and change this existing one but I’ve just noticed two pipes coming from the cistern. Just wondering if anybody can tell me what the one on the left is?

Re. pipes in the way of a low level close coupled replacement WC:
1. As stated above the pipe at the left is for an overflow. Get a cistern with either a syphon (better in my opinion) or a flush valve with internal overflow. Old overflow pipe can be removed.
2. Re-route horizontal pipe (cold water supply to cistern) to just below or just above new WC's outlet pipe. Will require turning the water off.
