I am reseraching the best type and am alarmed at the number of non-complaint boilers still being advertised with no indication that they are not band A or B. A few have a special link that takes you to the L regs, a few have a disclaimer about not being able to return incorrect ones ordered by mistake but quite a few simply offer a price e.g. £440 including VAT and delivery - clearly a bargain if you can't fit a HE or its for Scotland. One clue is if it is designated SE as this is Standard Efficiency as opposed to High. I had to check quite a few individually via the suppliers web site.
I have thus far narrowed it down to a Ariston Microgenus 24 HE for £560 incl deliv, std flue and mech clock (the filling loop is built in) - there is another £10 off if I order before Xmas! It is for a 1 bed flat with 4 rads + under unit for kitchen (as seen in Wickes). There is no bath, just elec shower so it only needs to run 2 hot taps. I am planning to drop the 22 F/R down to 15 fairly quickly near ceiling, T off to a ladder in bathroom at 15 and then drop the main run to 10 for rest as I have to cross the hall ceiling to get to lounge/bed. I am planning to hide as much of the pipework as possible utilising false wall in kit, inside of cloakroom, ducting buried in plaster and behind skirting.
Are these ladder rads any good? - I have used the Wickes guide which says mult the cubic space by 153 to get the BTUS. The bathrm is 8ft all round so using 2.5m gives approx 1600 which requires a long ladder. If I use a standard rad I can get 5 rads for £250 from the same supplier including TRVs + fittings. (I need some for another job so I could even opt for the 7 rad deal).
Any advice/tips/hints would be appreciated. I have access to a Corgi reg plumber but, not surprisingly, he is hard to get hold of unless I get him on the Golf course.
