plz help regarding partial chimney removal?

ok i have a big through lounge and plan to split the room with a stud wall. once i install the wall one of the rooms not going to be nicely square UNLESS i remove part of the chimney. my problem is that if i remove part of this downstairs chimney, how can i stop the upper chimney from coming crashing down?

bearing in mind the house has NO gas fires so non of the chimney is in use and also the chimney is CENTRAL to the house as you can see from the pic..

plz see attached pic to get better idea of what i mean..
