CARELESS drivers could be handed £100 on-the-spot fines in a bid to make Britain’s roads safer.

Motorists who tailgate, undertake or cut up others may get an immediate penalty rather than being taken to court.

Sounds like a good idea in theory, the problem I see is that as there are never any police outside of the shop, no one will ever get caught.

Motorways possibly being the exception.

Tailgaters need sorting in my view. Stupidly bright headlights and the use of fog lamps when there is no fog come a close 2nd and 3rd.
People stupid enough to install HID lamps on their motors should have them shoved where the sun doesnt shine.

I would certainly fine the motorists who use their fog / spot lights in normal driving conditions.
Also any failed lamps, tail lights in particular, I appreciate bulbs can fail at any time, but if stopped by the police, providing they have a spare bulb that they can fit immediately, then they should let off, no spare bulb...then fixed penalty fine.
The idiots in stop start traffic, who block the entry / exit from side roads, stopping cars entering that side road would be high on my list for swelling the coffers.

talking out of your......
the only thing the plod do round here with any degree of regularity is persecute the motorist as it is easier than actually doing any real policing!

I too agree about the misuse of fog lights however the distinction between front fog lights and Daytime running lights is quite blurred now and would be a pain for the average plod....

Construction and use regulations, lights with a beam centre below 24" (600mm) may only be used in fog or falling snow, I believe used to be the defination when axuillary lights could be used, I don't think that has changed.

Also bulb wattage comes into account doesnt it? Anyhow its plods job , they should know how to do it.

Easier said than done on many cars today, try changing a bulb on a megane you need the wheel and inner wing off

but in general it's a decent idea IF there are enough coppers to actually inforce it.

Anyone who displays a sign in the back window that says 'Mummy's little priness on board', or 'Dad's taxi' should be put up against the wall and shot.

Yes, thatbloke I believe you are correct and I think it's law that you have to at least carry a spare set in France home to the meganne. Surely not being able to change a bulb without the need of tools is pitiful design.

And anyone who can read that sign needs to back off a little.

I have 20:20 vision, so I'm perfectly able to read signs from a safe distance thank you.

I should imagine that your eyesight isn't very good: for obvious reasons!

I'd like to see £200 on the spot fines and 6 penalty points for these clowns who think it's ok to use a mobile phone whilst driving without a seatbelt on.
