Just been looking at putting a 16mm thick polycarbonate canopy from between the 2 windows to the end of the house (from house to neighbouring wall)
Width - 2 metre (house to wall)
Length - 6 metre

I was hoping to get the guttering from the canopy to either fall onto the lower roof or into the lower guttering.

I'll be fixing a wall plate to both rear and side walls but wanted advice on the timber recommendations and the design for the timber structure.
My thoughts are 5x2 beams with 100x100 posts (3 x posts shown as circles on quick drawing) or will this be overkill/not strong enough?

6m is long! can I suggest putting a 4x2 support in the middle from your central post, if you do that then you could use 4x2 for your rafters as well.

That was my initial concerns with it having a 6m projection.
I'm guessing your suggestion would be for the support to go underneath the rafters?
What size timber would you suggest for the end and side wall plates?

Yes underneath the rafters about midway 4x2 should be ok, one end bolted to your central post and
the other end sat in a joist hanger on the wall.

Thank you for the help, will see how I get along with the mini project ;)

@catlad , thanks for the advice, seems sturdy enough (although reading your advice again the cross braces should have been the other way round with a joist hanger). Just got the guttering left to do then onto the next project
