What is the difference between polypropylene and abs waste pipes and fittings apart from the price. Are the both used for push fit and compression fittings and can a polyproplene pipe and fitting be used to fit abs with it.

Polypropylene and ABS pipes are different diameters, despite the nominal size being the same. That's to stop people mixing incompatible parts.

ABS fittings are usually solvent welded.

Polypropylene is usually used with push-fit fittings, as solvent weld cement doesn't stick to it permanantly.

It is possible to make a sound looking solvent weld joint between polypropylene and ABS, but when the cement fully hardens it just flakes off the polypropylene, and the joint falls apart.

Universal compression fittings fit both types, and can be used to convert from one material to the other
