Poor access in loft (Ed.)

I'm struggling getting from one part of my roof to the other to add extra insulation. Its where one section hips into the other.

There's a few lateral and diagonal sections of 4*1" timbers, are these providing any support or were these to aid the roof construction?

Those are part of the roof structure to prevent lateral movement. They should not be removed.

Use a wooden brush handle with a nail or screw in the end at 90 degrees
