Popup bath plug not staying shut

Hi there

We've got a villeroy and boch bath, which has a clicky popup style plug. Eg push once to close, push again to open.

Only it's now not staying in its shut state. Is this normally an easy fix or is it most often a replacement? I'm loathe to start playing with taking it out and investigating as the shower is over the bath and it's the only one we've got. If I introduced a leak or rendered it unusable I'd be in trouble!

I know this is a vague question, so a 'most likely' answer is all I'm after!

"most likely" it will need to be replaced I have had a few problems with these clicker type wastes try and replace it with a bristan one if poss they are a better quality and the working part can be removed from above without disturbing pipework and cleaned
