Hi all, I'm designing a porch/decking area along the rear of my house and I'm struggling to work out how to put a roof on it. I'm only at early design stages at the moment but I've included a rough plan and end elevation. The problem is I want to put a roof over the large decked area which will be over 7 metres long and 4 metres deep from the house wall. The house was originally single story but someone built a dormer extension with flat roof many years ago. The gutter height at the bottom of the sloping roof is 2.7m and I think I'd need to build a shed style roof that goes back to the house roof but does not touch it. But working it out in Autocad it seems I'd only have a 5 degree pitch. Would this be a major issue since I don't need the roof to be water tight only secure and strong enough to handle the wind. I live in Northern Scotland so I want to roof my decking area and fit curtains around the edges so that I can enclose it in the evenings when the fire is on. I plan to build a brick fire place with chimney higher than the porch roof. And suggestions would be appreciated.
