portable gas heater

We have a small portable gas heater which works fine. The flame is blue and it gives off a good heat but this winter when it's in use there's a smell like the old Calor gas heaters used to give off. Any ideas please?

Do you mean a plug in natural gas portable fire if so these have been illegal for 30 plus years

No, works off small propane bottle.

Is this bottle used indoors? Propane bottles shouldn't be stored or used indoors according to BS 5482-1:2005

Well yes, otherwise it wouldn't be portable.
