Hi,

We're replacing a radiator in a cold bedroom. The old one is on the chimney breast. There are two external walls - one with a window. The plaster's recommended putting a wide, short rad under the window but I always though rads under windows just pumped heat outside?

So does the rad pull the falling cold air from the window and heat it up - or does the hot air rise get lost through warming the window?

Any thoughts and recommendations on types of rad welcome.

Thanks

Putting the radiator under the window is traditionally done as a. its frees up wall space for furniture and b. the rising warm air "catches" the cold draughts as the air flows up to the ceiling and around the room.

Providing the curtains aren't overhanging the radiator it won't be too much of a problem.

If you have PVC double glazing you won't get too many draughts and you could place the radiator to the side of the window.

The radiator must of course be sized sufficient to heat the room.

Thanks for the info - I'll look for the highest btu unit that'll fit under the window.
