Approx every 3 years or so I have to replace the pull cord switch in my bathroom because they soon start to play up. It's not like they get loads of use. Does anyone make quality pull switches that might go the distance?

I know it's possible. My parents still live in the same house they bought new in 1961. The bedrooms, bathroom and toilet have 5 pull cord switches between them and they are all the original ones that have had a lot of use in the past 63 years. They're poss Crabtree and still work as good as new.

I'm not expecting 63 years out of a new switch, just one that doesn't need to be changed regularly as it's a pain. Or is it all throwaway junk these days?

Crabtree switches are decent.

The quickest way pull switches get destroyed is when people attach heavy decorative items to the end of the cord, instead of the lightweight plastic acorn that it was supplied with.

Pull cord switches are not required in bathrooms and never were. Wall mounted switches are permitted in most cases.

Yeah. It's the weighted ends on cord or if the cable access hole lets dust in that kills them off

OK, thanks. Will give Crabtree a go. If I recall correctly, I made sure to put an MK in last time. If I did, the quality isn't up to much on a known brand.

MK have 2 quality ratings now, or maybe even more , as far as i can see , one is really cheap , unlike MK of old
MK Logic plus

The MK Base range was created to meet a fundamental need for reliable and safe switches and sockets from a trusted manufacturer that are refreshingly priced for prudent budgets.

I used MK pull switches in my place - got through two in three years - then the third MK one is still going strong after 20 years.

Odd how it works out.

Any crumbly old plaster from the ceiling dropping into your pull switch?
