Hi all

re our Victorian House

I'm looking at tidying up our understairs cupboard. I think it may be covered with a thing caled distemper (kind of an off white white wash stuff)

Am kind of hoping to repaint it after patching the many holes in the lathe-and-plaster but have heard that distemper is pretty evil to paint over

Is there anything I can seal over the distemper to allow repainting ?

Its an understairs cupboard so the final finish doesn't have to be super smooth or anything

In that situation a coat of stablilising solution should be ok. scrape any loose off first etc. You can get waterbased nowadays so smell wont be a problem indoors. Let it dry then coat up with emulsion.

thanks for your help conf !

I have a tin of old (smelly) stabiliser around somewhere - will give it a go tonight
