I have a neighbor in the planning process of building a modern post and beam house similar to a huf haus and is claiming the maximum pitch its roof can be is 40 degrees. Is this correct? i thought post and beam buildings can be steeper.

No. I build post and beam frames. Pitches from 4 degrees to 70+ degrees for spires and the likes. There does seem to be some sort of unfortunate fashion for the 45 deg pitch these days. Don't know why as a steeper pitch gives you much more usable roof space.
