Hi All
Could I have some advice please!

We have a Potterton HE Plus 15/2. I don't know how old probably 2005 installation.
We have never had any problems with it until last week when it didn't fire up when the timer came on.
Preset reset and all Ok (for a while) Now it is needing 10+ attempts at pressing reset.
So i called the plumber we usually use and he's on holiday so i call another gas man we've used before but he's fully booked, so he gives me the details of another local independant. Guy answers, seems ok arranges to come around the next day - only when I am clearing the corner for ease of access do i notice there's been a constant drip into the blender!!!
He takes off front and unscrews condensor trap (?) and some grainy stuff comes out but this doesn't seem to fix it - anyway he says it's electrodes and goes off to get part and a part for another customer and then drops off the face of the earth!
That was friday and I finally get a reply from him saying call heateam of BG and get a fixed price job etc. (I guess he didn't know what the problem was and didn't fancy trying to work it out!!)
Anyway - does anyone have any ideas of how long this would take a BG engineer to fix - they are quoting £199 inc for up to 2 hours - how is this calcuated?
comments on here seem to suggest it could be anything from a faulty seal to a new PCB (I guess BG engineers don't do soldering!!!!)
Is there anyone with experience of this problem in the berkshire area who could help as it needs to be fixed on Wednesday or left til we get back from hols!!
Thanks for reading!

This BG engineer does but keep it quiet, no longer allowed to repair a PCB.

As you say there are plenty of issues with this boiler that will cause a lockout. Dry joints on the PCB is one of them.

BG's pricing for FPR's is based on time and the average cost of parts used plus a profit. In your case most of the likely causes will be done in that time at that price. You will likely get them out for wednesday too.

Nickso - thanks for quick reply!
Sounds good so far - when the engineer turns up - is there a way of making sure this stays under the 2 hour limit - what "tricks" might they pull to expend it????

He may drink tea/coffee and then go to the toilet....they are quite devious :)
