Hi All,

I've recently had my gas meter box relocated from the front of the property to the rear. Maybe a week and a half after the move the boiler has developed a problem whereby it will fire up regardless of the setting. No matter if the selector is set to "DHW only" or "DHW&CH" the boiler will start up even if the CH is set to the lowest value and there is no demand for HW. I guess we are lucky that it is winter and the boiler is ON rather than OFF, but I don't want to be hit with a hefty bill from my lovely gas provider.

The boiler will fire up for a minute and stop for a minute and re-fire again. This will loop indefinitely so long as the boiler is powered ON. The radiators will be hot throughout and the water from the taps will always be hot.

The DHW Pressure Differential Valve seems to be working fine and I can see that the pin comes out and activates the 3-way micro-switch when I turn the taps on.

However there is something that I am unclear about . The Diverter Manifold's pin is always "out" activating the (Hydraulic Differential Pressure?) switch (circled in the diagram). Should this pin "always" be out, as I never see it go back into the manifold, which I guess it should from time to time. I take this pin is the cause for the continuous firing as when I force the pin down with a screwdriver the boiler stops firing. The pin only goes back inside the manifold only when I turn the selector to the “OFF” position on the front panel.

Because of all of this it doesn't look to be a switch issue as the switches do work, but the problem is the pin in Diverter Manifold is always up which causes the boiler to fire up.

What do you guys think could be the cause of this pin for always being out? Is it likely to be a faulty PCB? I cannot see any obvious leaks anywhere but will have a harder look tonight.

Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated; don't fancy making an expensive call out (and possibly be getting messed about) if it could be easily fixed.

:)

Many thanks

Sounds as though the pin is sticking.

it will need taking out and cleaning properly, then smeared with silicone grease.

Many thanks KidGreen,

The pin however does go down freely when the boiler is switched off, could it still be a sticking pin if it goes down easy when switched off?

DHW switch probably busted and stuck on regardless of the lever.

The pin being up is because the pump is running, as already said DHW switch stuck on or (knackered) primary NTC bringing on boiler as frost protection.
