Howdy all,

OK... I own a potterton Lynx 2 boiler and currently I'm only getting warm water through my taps but the central heating is red hot.

I've been working away out of the country for 3months and while I was away my girlfriend had the boiler serviced. A couple of days later she complained that the boiler was leaking water. I called my personal handy man (aka Dad) and after he had a looked he said a valve was loose which he tighten and solve the leak. The boiler was left open to dry out as the circuit board became wet (not sure as to what extent).

Since this all happened the boiler has produced warm water even if I adjust the temp gauge on the front. Am I right to think I'll need to replace the circuit board (which seems simply enough) or would it be something else.

Much thanks.

P.S The timer makes an awful racket which I put up with for now but if the circuit board needs replacing I may as well change that too.

There are many possibilities, and the PCB is one of the least likely.

The diverter valve is a likely culprit.

Does the temperature increase when you reduce the flow rate at the tap?

Thanks for the replies,

Sandybeach - it increases a little but know where near as much s it used to.

Agile - Diverter valve sounds a touch out of my league. Think I may have to dig out the yellow pages.

The problem all depends on how wet the PCB became and if/when the power was turned off.

If its damaged by water there would usually be a greenish deposit on it which MIGHT cure it if scraped off.

The quality of the service seems to be questionable.

This is a pretty old boiler now although I keep one going for someone who does not want to replace it.

The power wasn't turned off until my Dad arrived. So 24hrs ish..?! I think it got pretty wet otherwise my Dad would of dried it off and closed the unit.

I'll check for the green stuff tonight... Fingers crossed.

I don't like to criticize peoples work but the engineer who did the service would not of been my first choice. He's done work for my partners parents and often he's come back to fix his work and the damage it's caused.

Anyhow... thanks again. I'll let you know how I get on.

Hi again,

Unfortunately I didn't find any green residue on the circuit board so I don't think that is the problem. Speaking to my dad again he said that the actual board didn't get wet just the wires that lead to it.

Any other ideas before I call somebody in??

On the plus side I managed to quieten the timer...

When the pipes are cold run the hot water and see if the 22mm pipes under the boiler start to get warm, if they do it could be a sticking diverter.
