I have been away for a few days and when I came to turn the heating on yesterday I had no joy.

Basically, when I depress the button to ignite the pilot light it lights immediately, however when I turn the button to keep the pilot on constant it goes out.

I have fiiled the system to 2 bars but still the same thing happens. Can anyone out there please help? Thanks in advance.

Firstly check that the pilot flame is reaching the thermocouple. If not blow the crap out of the pilot burner with an air duster or a drinking straw if you are really desperate.

Then try a new Thermocouple

Baxi part number 929547

Cant remember whether or not a universal will fit it. If it wont the problem will be at the pilot burner end - Cheaper and easier to get hold of!
Maybe theres a potty engineer about or someone else who has fitted one lately

If the T/C doesnt work; the problem will be the gas valve and thats a Corgi job

Thanks for your help - I have checked the thermo cupple etc and found the problem is the high limit thermostat Which cuts out the pilot and won't let it stay alight. I have been told that it may have a manual reset button somewhere. Could you give me any information as to whether this is the case and if so, where it might be.

If not, I guess I need a new thermostat. Thanks again for the help - you've saved me a bundle so far!

Let's get it right, changing a thermocouple is a Corgi job. Someone who sets the water pressure too high in the hope that it will help him with his pilot clearly isn't competent to touch a boiler.

Universals TC's vary but most don't fit Pumas properly.

There's no reset button.

Theres a box to the right of the combustion chamber casing 3/4 way up.
Some have a button some dont. If they do its very small and situated right in the middle of the stat.

Thanks Slugbaby - can't see any small buttons, will try a new thermostat and hope for the best. Cheers once more.
