When central heating is on there are banging noises at top of boiler then pilot light goes out causing heating to fail. Pilot light can then take ages to relight...water seems to be fine. Central heating stays on for varying lengths of time.

Any ideas please, thanks alot

do u have a diverter valve on the system, usualy in the airing cupboard?
if so then more than likley your problem is to do with that or air, check all air vens including any vents in the airing cupboard, make sure there is water in the whole system 1st

fink a puma is a combi
make sure the pressure is on one bar cold check the auto air vent is open
the symptom is the boiler overheating
the cause is prob ait or cr*p in the system

check the pump, myson aren't the greatest pumps in the world. This may sound silly BUT turn the power OFF at the wall, remove the black plastic cover on the pump and see if u can smell burning. this means u need i new pump. don't buy it a a pare part coz ull pay in excesss of £100, go to your local plumbers merchant and get a new 6 metre cp63 and change the HEAD only. about £30.00 Most myson pumps on this model normal need replacing in 2-3 years.
Otherwise do u have T.R.V.s all round, this boiler does not have an internal bypass so at least 1 big radiator or 2 smaller rads need to have the t.r.v. heads PERMANENTLY removed.

Must disagree with boiler and agree with shaneio must likely the diverter valve rather than the pump, becasue if the pump was knackerd then you would not have central heating either!

Well I reckon it's the hot water flow switch sticking on.

The heating woould come on because the diverter is in CH position. It will get hot without restraint because the boiler is looking at the HW temp - which is cold! SO the boiler boils and turns off.

But on HW it would be OK.

It's easy to confirm - there's a red light on the PCB when the boiler thinks the HW is flowing.

Can be the plunger sticking or the switch faulty.

The flow switch is the brass round thing left of centre with a hex shaft poking to the right, with a switch on the end. The hex shaft has 2 holes in ot. If you poke a screwdriver in and push left, it might get better for a bit.

are you trying to divert attention from your suggestion that system dirt would be the problem?

or are you just trying to get your number of contributions higher than mine?

but the water doesn't get to the bits which actually stick. There's a diaphragm in the way. And it's a puma not a profile...
