Hi there, I wanted to ask if it is possible (and ok practice) to use the electricity power from a standard socket through a 2-gang switch (live connected) and to 2 wires with wall lamps (2) and spotlights (4)? I presume lights and sockets should be on different circuits, but wanted to ask your advice if ok in any case? Thanks for any help! Rgds

It is okay to take a feed from a socket outlet, the additional part of the lighting circuit, will require to be down fused though.
The method you use to make this connection, would need to comply.
It is common practice to introduce a fused connection at the point where you break in to the circuit, it can then be down fused there, but consideration must be taken it to the existing set up you have. As there are requirements concerning spurs from socket circuits.
On a ring final circuit, you cannot take a spur from a socket that is already a spur, unless this has a fused connection inserted at the point where the ring final had been broken in to.
Other requirements will concern permitted safe routes of any buried cable and 30mA RCD protection of this cable.
