Hi, I am attempting to trace a cable that runs from the CU in the house to a detached garage about 4 ft away from the house. My question is, is there a typical way the cable would leave the house? Would it be drilled through brick? How far underground is typical?

The house was built around 1990.

Many thanks

Fuse keeps blowing in CU. I've tested all items in the garage and all working fine from an extension cable so suspect the issue is with the cable that runs underground, or at least need to rule it out.

How many sockets and lights in the garage ?

Just one socket and 1 light. It tripped one morning when nothing was 'on' so to speak. I was only aware when I came to use the electric door

Apologies, it's not an MCB with a switch, it's a fuse which sits in a plastic housing similar to a MCB. I did attempt to buy an MCB to replace it (rather than keep blowing 15 amp fuses at 2 quid a pop) but even though I bought the same make (Hager), it didn't fit. I suspect as it's the original CU the MCB design has changed slightly over 30 odd years.

I assume you can not visibly see it above ground anywhere? How it was installed could be anyone’s guess. What type of cable goes from the consumer unit?
